Omicron: NCAA lists requirements for pre-boarding as airlines risk ban, penalty of $3,500 for failure to comply

In order to stem the spread of the Covid-19 variant called the Omicron, the Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19 as come up with a revised Provisional Quarantine protocols for travelers.

To this end, the Director General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu has written to all international airlines arriving and departing Nigeria to comply with the protocols.

In the letter, Capt. Nuhu says, any airline who violates the pre-boarding protocols will be fined $3,500 penalty per passenger and also consistent non-compliance will result in a ban.

The Requirements

Inbound passengers: Arlines are only to board passengers travelling to Nigeria who are in possession of a paid permit to travel with a QR Code and a result of a negative COVID-19 test done not later than 48 hours from time of boarding.

Any inbound passenger who is unable to either make payment for his/her repeat PCR test(s) or generate a paid permit to travel via the Nigeria International Travel Portal (NITP), airlines are to send an email to directorporthealthfmoh@gmail.com and copy travelportal@ncdc.gov.ngictservicedesk@ncdc.gov.ng, wilfred.haggai@ncaa.gov.ng for necessary assistance.

Outbound passengers: Airlines are only to board passengers out of Nigeria with evidence of either full vaccination for COVID-19 or a negative COVID-19 test done at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) accredited laboratories not later than 48hours from time of boarding.
