The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating flooding caused by the Alau Dam disaster in Borno State.

The disaster has resulted in widespread displacement, property damage, and infrastructural destruction, impacting thousands of lives.

In a letter to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, NSE President Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to supporting the state’s recovery efforts.

She praised Governor Zulum’s resilience and dedication in addressing the challenges faced by Borno State.

The NSE has pledged to collaborate with relevant state agencies to assess the structural integrity of affected infrastructure, develop sustainable flood management strategies, and prevent future disasters.

The Society says, it will provide technical assistance and expert advice during the reconstruction process to ensure long-term resilience.

To facilitate immediate support, the NSE President has directed the Maiduguri Branch and relevant divisions to offer their services to the Borno State Government.

Engineers within the Maiduguri Branch will play a crucial role in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of affected areas, focusing on flood management, infrastructure repair, and public safety.

The NSE President has also requested a comprehensive report from a Special Purpose Committee detailing the Society’s involvement in the ongoing efforts and progress made in collaboration with state agencies.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers stands in solidarity with Borno State as it works to recover and rebuild.
