Prof. Charles Anosike, Director General and CEO of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has been named Aviation Sector CEO of the Year 2024 by the Board of Editors of Independent Newspapers Limited.

The award recognizes Anosike’s proactive leadership and transformative efforts at NiMet.

In a letter presented to Anosike, Independent Newspapers cited his agency’s contributions to various socio-economic sectors through local and international partnerships.

The letter highlighted NiMet’s issuance of early warnings for flood prevention, crucial in mitigating the impact of climate change.

The board also acknowledged NiMet’s partnerships, including one with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to improve disease preparedness and response, particularly for climate-sensitive illnesses.

This collaboration facilitates data sharing and helps correlate climate patterns with disease outbreaks.

Other achievements noted by the board include the successful re-accreditation of NiMet’s Regional Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), and the agency’s commitment to human capital development.

Anosike expressed his gratitude to Independent Newspapers and dedicated the award to NiMet’s staff and management.

He also thanked Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo for his support.

The investiture ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
