...Public and Airlines Advised to Take Precautions
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning about the potential arrival of thick dust hazes in the next 24 hours, causing a decline in horizontal visibility.
According to Yusuf Muntari, the General Manager of Public Affairs NiMet, the Inter-Tropical Discontinuity (ITD) is projected to shift slightly Southwards, currently at about 9.60N Lat. Dust-Haze propagation into the Northern parts of the country is anticipated due to favorable winds over 10m and 925hPa (700m).
Stations in the Sahara Desert’s source region (Chad and Niger) have reported Dust-Haze with poor horizontal visibility (300m to 5000m) in the last 24 hours.
Strong winds are expected to carry suspended dust, further diminishing visibility in states like Katsina, Kano, Nguru, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Potiskum, and Maiduguri over the next 24 hours.
NiMet advises the public to take necessary precautions, especially those with respiratory issues.
Airline operators are urged to consult NiMet for updated weather reports to plan their operations effectively.
NiMet will continue monitoring the weather and provide updates as needed.
