Nigeria’s Air Cargo Sector Needs Forward-Thinking Regulations to Address Challenges, says ADGCA

The Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, says, a robust regulatory frameworks are needed to ensure the safety, security, and efficiency of Nigeria’s air cargo business. 

Speaking at the 4th CHINET Aviacargo conference in Lagos on the theme: “The Regulation of Air Cargo Business in Nigeria”, Capt. Najomo represented by Mr. Ayokunle Jimoh highlighted the critical role air cargo plays in connecting markets, fostering economic growth, and ensuring the timely delivery of goods worldwide.

The rapid evolution of the air cargo sector he says, requires forward-thinking regulations to address challenges such as security, safety, and environmental sustainability. 

The ADGCA stressed the importance of harmonizing regulations across borders, leveraging advanced technologies, and fostering a culture of security awareness among personnel involved in cargo operations.

The NCAA he noted is working closely with industry stakeholders to implement effective security measures, enhance risk assessment processes, and ensure compliance with international safety standards. 

Adding that, the Authority is also reviewing the provisions of the Civil Aviation Act 2022 to ensure that regulations align with international best practices.

Captain Najomo emphasized the need for continued collaboration between regulatory authorities, airlines, and cargo handlers to address challenges and embrace new opportunities. 

He urged stakeholders to review the provisions of the Civil Aviation Act to ensure compliance with regulations.
