Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), has called for increased collaboration among professional bodies to address Nigeria’s multifaceted challenges.
Speaking at the Board meeting of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) in Lagos, Oguntala emphasized the need for synergy among professionals to find sustainable solutions to issues such as infrastructure deficits and economic instability.
“The complex problems facing our nation require a multi-disciplinary approach”.
“By working together, we can leverage our collective expertise to achieve remarkable outcomes. It’s time to build bridges across our professions and create synergies that drive national development.”
The NSE president also stressed the importance of ethical conduct and capacity building among professionals.
She called on professional bodies to set and enforce high ethical standards, while also investing in continuous professional development to keep members updated with industry trends.
Oguntala further highlighted the need for advocacy and youth engagement and urged professional bodies to work together to influence government policies that support professional excellence and national development.
She also called for mentorship programs to nurture young professionals and prepare them for leadership roles.
To promote Nigerian expertise globally, Oguntala encouraged professionals to seek opportunities abroad while representing the country positively.
She also invited attendees to the 2024 National Engineering Conference, themed “Sustainable Engineering Solutions to Food Security and Climate Change,” scheduled for November 18-24.
