The organizers of the Akwaaba African Travel Market have expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for its prompt and effective intervention in resolving visa challenges faced by international delegates.

In a WhatsApp message to tourism stakeholders, Ambassador Ikechi Uko, the organizer, shared his relief at the successful resolution of the visa issues.

He had previously expressed concerns about the high cost of online visas on arrival and the difficulties faced by delegates from East Africa due to limited visa issuance by Nigerian embassies.

Following his appeals to the Minister of Tourism, the government swiftly mobilized its resources to address the problem.

The Ministers of Interior, Tourism, and the Comptroller General of Immigration worked collaboratively to implement new measures that ensure easier and more accessible visa processes for African visitors to Nigeria.

The organizers believe that Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) tourism is a critical sector that can significantly benefit Nigeria’s economy.

While leisure travel is optional, MICE events are often mandatory and can generate substantial revenue.

They emphasized the importance of government support for MICE initiatives, such as providing access to venues and facilitating hosted buyer programs.

The Nigerian government has been reviewing its visa policies and is expected to announce new measures soon.

The recent intervention in resolving visa challenges for the Akwaaba African Travel Market demonstrates its commitment to improving the country’s tourism infrastructure and attracting more international visitors.

The 20th edition of the Akwaaba African Travel Market will take place from September 22nd to 24th at the Eko Hotels Convention Centre.

This year’s event will feature representatives from nearly 20 countries.
