In a significant milestone for Nigeria’s aviation industry, representatives from the Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (NATCA) have been elected to three influential standing committees of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (IFATCA) at the 64th Annual Conference held in Abu Dhabi.

This achievement reinforces Nigeria’s growing credibility in international aviation circles and signals a renewed confidence in Nigerian professionals to contribute meaningfully to global regulatory and operational frameworks.

According to the Executive Vice President of IFATCA’s Africa and Middle East region and Director of Special Duties at the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Ahmad Abba, the election of NATCA members to the Constitution and Administration Committee, Professional and Legal Committee, and Technical and Operations Committee is a testament to Nigeria’s technical depth and institutional commitment to the advancement of global aviation standards.

The conference, which brought together air traffic control professionals and experts from across the globe, served as a strategic platform for dialogue, cooperation, and innovation within the aviation industry.

The Africa and Middle East region, particularly Nigeria, made a significant impression, displaying remarkable visibility and leadership under Abba’s coordination.

The election of Nigerian representatives to key committees is expected to amplify Nigeria’s voice on the global stage and expand its technical influence through IFATCA’s governance structures, supporting the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s vision of transforming Nigeria into an aviation hub with globally competitive standards.

The conference also saw the unveiling of the IFATCA AFM Strategic Plan 2025-2027, which outlines a robust framework aimed at enhancing professional development, institutional capacity, and safety standards across the region.

With Nigeria leading from the front, the future of air traffic management across the continent looks poised for transformational growth, and all eyes are now on Africa to sustain this upward trajectory.
