….boost continental expertise
In a significant step toward deepening regional cooperation in aviation, the South African Consulate General in Lagos has thrown its weight behind the newly launched Nigeria-South Africa Aviation Exchange Programme.
The initiative, which aims to build capacity, foster career growth, and drive cross-border collaboration in Africa’s aviation sector, was unveiled during a strategic meeting led by South Africa’s Consul General, Dr. Bobby Moroe.
The programme marks the first major undertaking of the Nigeria-South Africa Aviation Forum, a platform founded by prominent aviation advocate Toni Ukachukwu.
It is designed as a pilot initiative to facilitate skills development, knowledge sharing, and institutional partnerships between the two countries, addressing longstanding gaps in aviation manpower and industry synergy across the continent.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Moroe underscored South Africa’s commitment to closer bilateral ties and regional development through collaborative platforms.
He described the programme as a timely intervention that aligns with broader goals of African integration and sustainable growth, particularly in critical sectors like aviation.
Ukachukwu noted that the exchange programme will serve as a launchpad for building long-term relationships between aviation institutions, regulators, airlines, and professionals in both countries.
He added that the initiative is tailored to nurture young talent, expose participants to best practices, and position Africa as a competitive force in global aviation.
The Nigeria-South Africa Aviation Exchange Programme is expected to commence with select participants and evolve into a broader framework that includes internships, workshops, technical exchanges, and executive mentorships, with support from stakeholders across government and industry.
Key Partners are, South African Consulate, Civil Aviation Authority of Nigeria, Civil Aviation Authority of South Africa, Aviators Management Academy, Academy of Aviation (South Africa) Airlines and Walk for Love Africa.
With this bold step, Nigeria and South Africa are setting a new standard for pan-African cooperation in aviation, one that holds promise for the future of air transport on the continent.
