….Strong Policies and Swift Action Praised

Nigeria’s successful completion of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Security Audit Programme, the Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA), on Friday 22nd March, 2024, was celebrated during a debriefing session led by Team Lead Callum Vine at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Headquarters in Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The USAP-CMA aims to bolster global aviation security by continuously auditing and monitoring Member States’ aviation security performance.

In a statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN Mrs Obiageli Orah, during the debriefing session, Team Lead Callum Vine commended Nigeria’s performance, highlighting the country’s strong security policies and dedicated agencies responsible for airport security.

He further praised the swiftness with which Nigerian personnel addressed any identified shortcomings.

A full audit report according to Vine, will be provided by ICAO within 60 days and Nigeria will then have 30 days to review the report and submit any comments.

Following this, the country will outline a plan to ensure complete compliance with ICAO’s security standards.

During the debriefing, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority (FAAN), emphasized utilizing the audit results as a guide for enhancing services and urged stakeholders to collaborate closely to maintain top-notch security standards.

She expressed gratitude to all government agencies, security personnel, institutions, and aviation leaders for their contributions to this achievement.

Officials present at the debriefing included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, representing the Minister, and the Acting Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo.
