The Federal Government has initiated steps to tackle the shortage of personnel in Air Traffic Management Services by recruiting 203 Air Traffic Controllers.
Additionally, it has raised the medical allowance for ATCs by 300%.
Engr. Farouk Ahmed, the Managing Director of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), made this announcement during the 3rd ATC-Pilot Interactive Session in Lagos.
He said, the recruitment aims to address manpower gaps, with collaboration with institutions like Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, NCAT, Zaria and Nigeria Air Force training center for training.
Engr. Farouk affirmed NAMA’s commitment to enhancing airspace safety, including upgrading communication, navigation, and surveillance equipment, and addressing welfare concerns.
He added that, projects inherited are under review to meet current and future ATC needs in Nigeria.
Focusing on this year’s ATC/Pilot forum “Building Safety Capabilities for the Future,” Engr. Farouk encouraged collaboration with sister agencies to ensure flight safety in the nation’s airspace.
He urged participants to examine airspace challenges and propose sustainable solutions.
