The AMES Edo Inland Dry Port in Benin city, Edo state has been presented certificate by the Nigeria export promotion Council, NEPC to operate a domestic export Warehouse.
The Dry Port was established by Dr. Charles Akhigbe who died last year, which led to the delay in the issuance of the license.
At the presentation of the certificate to AMES Edo Inland Dry Port delegation in Abuja, the Executive Director NEPC, Dr. Ezra Yakusak says the commission would support any effort aimed at promoting non-oil export.
Dr. Yakusak said, the licence was given because the necessary checks and inspection had been done which qualified the company for the license.
Explaining further, the NEPC boss said, the warehouse license given to them was to ensure that there was a common place where customs, quarantine services and others can inspect goods before export.
Dr. Ezra commiserated with the leader of the delegation over the death of her husband who was the original brain behind the establishment of the company.
The leader of the delegation Dr. Doris Akhigbe stated that, the team was at the NEPC to solicit support for the training of its personnel and farmers.
According to her, they have all the facilities to commence operation on ground but required trainings in line with international standards to enable its workers function effectively.
In the meantime, the Edo State Government has pledged support to the company and has given approval for the construction of roads leading to the dry land port and building of an independent power plants.
