Irked by the sack of Nigerian employees in the employment of Kenya Airways, the National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE says there is no going back in the disruption of the airline operations of Kenya Airways in Lagos.
The union this morning grounded the operations of the airline for its refusal to accede to their demands in the wake of the sack of no fewer than 20 Nigerian employees.
Members of the union stopped the airline passenger facilitation by barricading the airline’s check-in counter at the Lagos International airport and prevented passengers from boarding.
The union members led by its General Secretary, Comrade Olayinka Abioye used the exercise to also warn allied airline, Air Rwanda, not to violate the country’s labour laws by assisting to fly Kenya Airways passengers.
Comrade Abioye, said they would not stay action on the disruption of the airline’s operations on till management show readiness to discuss with the union and negotiate terms of disengagement of the affected workers.
” NUATE commence industrial action against Kenya Airways this morning, shuts its counter and warn allied airline, Air Rwanda to discontinue breaking labour action by ferrying Kenya Airways passengers”.
However, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA has wield into the matter to ensure the matter is resolved and sanity restored by the airport.
The union has therefore suspended their action as a meeting has been slated for Tuesday next week between the union and Management of Kenya Airways to iron all grey areas.
