….Tours to Highlight MMA2’s Operational Achievements

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2) in Lagos, is set to launch the second phase of its media tours in the new year.

This follows the success of the initial phase, which garnered significant interest among aviation industry stakeholders and media organizations.

The first phase provided BASL an opportunity to highlight its operational achievements and the innovations keeping MMA2 an attractive destination for passengers and visitors.

The tour also allowed the media to better understand the challenges and triumphs of running Nigeria’s first privately managed airport terminal, which has been operational for over 17 years.

The BASL team, led by Acting Chief Operating Officer and Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, Mr. Remi Jibodu, visited several prominent media houses, including The Guardian, The PUNCH, Vanguard, New Telegraph, The Nation, and Business Day.

During these visits, Jibodu detailed the company’s efforts to sustain MMA2 through strategic investments, including the establishment of an Equipment Management Department and the acquisition of a digital cold room for perishable cargo.

He emphasized that the cold storage facility—the first of its kind in a domestic airport in Nigeria—addresses challenges faced by cargo businesses and helps preserve products such as immunization materials and food items.

Jibodu also outlined BASL’s commitment to enhancing passenger experiences through improved infrastructure, including an upgraded Wi-Fi system in key areas of the terminal and enhanced surveillance systems to combat theft and prevent stowaways.

He noted that MMA2’s on-time performance for airline departures has steadily improved, with an average of 74% in 2024 and aspirations to reach 85-90% efficiency.

Head of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, highlighted the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, including collaborations with the NSIA-LUTH Cancer Center to raise breast cancer awareness.

She also reiterated BASL’s dedication to innovation, excellence, and efficiency, which have been its guiding principles since inception.

The media houses commended BASL for its operational standards and its role in demonstrating the potential for successful public-private partnerships in managing infrastructure.

The tours offered a platform for meaningful dialogue, fostering a deeper appreciation of the complexities and successes of managing a multi-billion-naira facility like MMA2.

With the second phase of the media tours scheduled for early 2025, BASL remains committed to sharing its vision for sustainable airport operations and continuous improvement in the aviation sector.
