A Max Air aircraft carrying 53 passengers and 6 crew members experienced a burst tyre on landing at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on Tuesday night.

The flight, arriving from Lagos, suffered a front tire burst upon landing, which resulted in a fire breaking out.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:19 pm, with passengers reporting smoke filling the cabin shortly after the tire burst.

The aircraft was brought to an emergency stop, and all passengers and crew were successfully evacuated through the emergency exit.

Fire services were on the scene quickly and were able to extinguish the flames.

Malam Bello Ramalan, the Kano Station Manager for Max Air, confirmed the incident in a phone call.

He expressed relief that all those on board were safe and apologized for the disruption caused.

Ramalan stated that the airline followed standard emergency procedures during the landing and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into the incident.

Preliminary reports suggest that the tire failure was the primary cause of the crash landing.

Max Air has reiterated its commitment to safety and stated that they will implement any necessary corrective measures based on the investigation’s findings.
