….for workforce development
Cross River State’s Commissioner for Aviation, Captain Imah Eno Utum, recently visited the Lagos Aviation Academy (LAA) as the institution celebrated its eighth anniversary.
This signals a potential partnership to address the state’s burgeoning aviation workforce needs.
Public Relations Manager, Finchglow Holdings, Temilade Adu, in a statement says, the visit comes as Cross River State plans to train 100 aviation professionals in anticipation of launching new aircraft operations.
During his tour of the facility, Capt. Utum expressed significant interest in collaborating with LAA for this training initiative.
“Institutions like LAA are not just responding to the industry’s needs; they are shaping its future,” Utum stated, emphasizing the crucial role of skilled talent and industry-aligned training in Nigeria’s aviation growth.
Since its inception in 2017, LAA has become a key player in Nigeria’s aviation sector, having trained over 3,000 professionals in diverse disciplines such as cabin crew, flight dispatch, IATA travel and tourism, and cargo handling.
The academy boasts a job placement rate exceeding 60%, with graduates securing positions across airlines, travel companies, and aviation service providers within Nigeria and West Africa.
LAA’s commitment to excellence has been recognized with multiple IATA Best Performer Awards in 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2024, maintaining its status as an IATA Authorized Training Centre.
Head of School, LAA, Mr. Bolaji Durojaiye, highlighted the institution’s focus on equipping professionals with global aviation standards.
“We’ve built a system that fuses technical expertise with real-world readiness—that’s how we stay relevant,” Durojaiye explained.
The Academy’s Lagos facility features smart classrooms and simulation tools, with a curriculum designed to meet international benchmarks.
This robust infrastructure enables LAA to supply certified professionals across Nigeria’s aviation value chain, from airlines and airports to tour operators and logistics providers.
As Nigeria’s aviation sector continues its expansion, the demand for qualified personnel meeting both domestic and international standards is rising.
LAA’s eight-year track record positions it as a leading institution for aspiring aviation professionals across the region.
