The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, Tuesday orchestrated a vital meeting in Abuja with Trinidad and Tobago’s High Commissioner, Ambassador H.E Wendell V.C De Landro, and his delegation.

The central focus was to formalize the longstanding Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago, aiming to establish a direct flight connection.

Recognizing the challenges of the current travel routes, which often take up to 24 hours on connecting flights, the initiative seeks to streamline the journey to a mere 7 and a half hours.

This reduction is anticipated to revolutionize bilateral relations, fostering economic and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

While the BASA agreement was initially proposed in 2009, its ratification was pending until this meeting. High Commissioner De Landro expressed dedication to expediting the process, emphasizing the potential for increased tourism, entertainment, and commerce through a direct flight connection.

The Aviation Minister, Mr Festus Keyamo in a statement applauded the High Commissioner’s commitment, acknowledging the cultural similarities between Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago.

He stated, “This agreement is commendable and timely, fostering closer ties and unlocking economic opportunities.”

To ensure swift progress, the Minister mandated the formation of a dedicated working committee to expedite the ratification process and engage a specific airline for the direct route.

This historic meeting signifies a significant stride in enhancing connectivity and cooperation between Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago, heralding a new era of collaboration and prosperity.
