The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has inaugurated Nigeria’s State Safety Programme’s National Executive Safety Committee (NESC), aligning with the safety protocols set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Annex 19.

Keyamo emphasized the committee’s duty to assess and manage safety risks within the Nigerian aviation sector professionally and effectively.

The NESC, as outlined by Keyamo, will focus on various aspects including safety policy, indicators, enforcement, data protection, and coordination.

Its responsibilities range from endorsing priorities for safety improvements to monitoring safety performance against national objectives and identifying emerging safety risks.

In response, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, highlighted the importance of implementing a robust State Safety Programme to enhance Nigeria’s understanding of its role in ensuring safe aviation operations.

He stressed that such implementation would enable Nigeria to address operational safety risks systematically and enhance overall safety performance.

Capt. Alex Badeh, Director General of NSIB, expressed gratitude to the Minister for the opportunity to serve on the committee and pledged to fulfill their duties diligently.

Key stakeholders from various aviation entities, including the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, NSIB, NiMet, NCAT, FAAN, and NAMA, among others, were appointed to serve on the committee.
