The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), will lead a discussion forum on how to overcome the challenges facing the aviation sector.

The forum, the 28th edition of the Annual Conference of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC), will take place on July 26th at the Providence Hotel in Ikeja GRA.

Keyamo will be joined by CEOs of aviation agencies, industry leaders, and stakeholders to share their insights and expertise on how to revitalize the sector.

The Minister believes that the conference will provide a valuable opportunity to listen to stakeholders’ inputs and gather resources to help him achieve his goal of returning the sector to its former glory.

The theme of the conference, “Aviation Survivability Amidst A Challenging Macro-economic Environment,” is particularly relevant given the current economic challenges facing Nigeria.

The Minister notes that the conference will provide a platform for industry leaders to brainstorm on how to navigate these challenges and find solutions to the sector’s growth constraints.

The chairman and secretary, organizing committee, Mr. Chiedu Eze and Albinus Chiedu confirmed the conference will be chaired by Dr. Thomas Ogungbangbe, CEO of CITA Group, and moderated by Captain Hamisu Yadudu, a former Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The keynote speech will be delivered by Engr. Umar Farouk, Managing Director of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

The panel session will feature a range of industry experts, including Capt. Chris Najomo, Acting Director General of the Civil Aviation, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director/Chief Executive of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN); and Dr. Wale Babalakin, Chairman of Bicourtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL).

Other speakers will include Capt. Samuel Caulcrick, a former Rector of Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria; Dr. Alex Nwuba, Second Vice President of Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI); and Mr. Olaniyi Adigun, Chairman of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON).

The conference aims to provide a platform for industry stakeholders to discuss the challenges facing the sector, including poor access to forex, weakening currency, high fuel costs, maintenance costs, poor airports infrastructure, regulatory constraints, growing manpower demands, technology upgrade, and passenger comfort.

The leaders of the organizing committee believe that the conference will be a valuable opportunity for industry leaders to come together and find solutions to the sector’s growth constraints.
