The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)has assured normalcy has returned to the Kaduna airport after yesterday’s attacks by bandits.
The bandits apparently may have gained entry into the airside of the airport on motorbikes.
According to a statement by the Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs in FAAN,Mrs. Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, two motorbikes abandoned by the bandits have been recovered.
“FAAN egrets to state that a group of bandits attacked the Runway 05 axis of Kaduna airport earlier in the day”.
She adds, “Normalcy has since been restored at the airport”.
However, a combined team of anti-banditry military personnel and Crime investigation unit of FAAN Aviation Security Department swiftly intervened for rescue operation,with one casualty reported in the incident.
In addition, She says, heavy reinforcement team from the Nigerian Defence Academy is on ground to ensure safety and security of airport workers/users.
The FAAN AVSEC Department has equally released operational vehicles to the team for patrol purposes.
While the Authority sympathises with the family and friends of the victim of the unfortunate incident, it pledges to continue to give further updates where necessary.
It will be recalled that, yesterday’s attacked not only led to commotion at the airport, a staff of NAMA who guards NAVIDS at the airport was killed by the bandits.
