Imo airport fire, FAAN commences investigation

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, says it has commenced preliminary investigation into the fire outbreak at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport,Owerri this afternoon.
As at the time of the incident at 2pm today, passengers were seen scampering for safety while the fire service personnel were making frantic effort to put out the fire.
Thick smoke was seen bellowing from the terminal building where the fire was believed to have started, though the cause is not yet known.
The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta yakubu said the  fire incident  affected some parts of the terminal building and the  fire was curtailed swiftly by officers of the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services Department of FAAN to avoid spreading to other areas.
She said, there were no casualty and normal operations had since resumed at the airport.
According to her, the Authority had swung into action to unravel the  cause of the incident, assuring that safety of passengers was their priority.
