ICAO promises to assist Nigeria overcome its challenges

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), has promised to provide necessary assistance to Nigeria in the areas of safety and security.
 ICAO president, Dr. Bernard Aliu made the promise during his visit to Lagos at the weekend.
In a statement, spokesman for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Mr. Sam Adurogboye said the visit of the ICAO helmsman was to find out from chief executives progress made and challenges they are facing.
It was also met to acquaint himself with the new changes in the headship of aviation Agencies in Nigeria.
He said issues discussed include the conclusion of the certification of Murtala International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, at the end of September, 2017; Search and Rescue Summit coming up in Togo; Cyber Security, Manpower, Upgrade of Equipment and Succession plan.
The statement says, ICAO, through its numerous interventions, is already assisting Nigeria in several areas including the ongoing certification of Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
The statement says,”He  congratulated the new CEOs on their appointments and also promised to provide necessary assistance where possible”.
Dr. Aliu arrived Lagos on Thursday night, in company of the Director General, NCAA,Capt.Muhtar Usman from Accra, Ghana, where he had earlier attended a Safety conference en route United Arab Emirates.
“It is pertinent to state that ICAO, through its numerous interventions, is already assisting Nigeria in several areas including the ongoing certification of Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja”.
Aside from the Director General of the NCAA, Capt. Muhtar Usman, other Chief Executive Officers in attendance were Capt. Folayele Akinkuotu, Managing Director, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and Engr. Saleh Dunoma, Managing Director, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Others are Capt. Abdulsalam Muhammed, Rector, Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Professor Sani Abdullahi Mashi, Director General, Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and Engr. Akinola Olateru, Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).
On Dr. Aliu’s entourage was Nigeria’s representative on the ICAO Council, Capt. Nuhu Musa.
Dr. Aliu has since left for Dubai.
