The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has promised to have a close door meeting with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on the new safety threshold handling rates approved for ground handling companies.
The new ground handling rates did not go down well with the airlines thus a petition was written by the Airline Operators of Nigeria, AOC to the House Committee to weld into the matter.
At a meeting today in Abuja with the aggreived and concerned bodies; the representatives of the Aviation Ground Handling Association of Nigeria (AGHAN), Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Airline Operators Committee (AOC), International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and NCAA, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji said, the meeting with the NCAA was very important to enable them take the right decision on the new rates.
”The meeting with the Director-General of NCAA is important because we believe his inputs is necessary for us to take a decision. The issue at hand is very important for the growth of the Nigerian civil aviation industry”.
He assured that, the committee would not only ensure the protection of the interest of Nigeria but also business entities operating in the country.
”Whatever we are going to come out with as a committee will be for the good of the industry.”
The Committee Chair also promised that, the committee would reconvene soon to discuss on the matter.
Last week the House Committee on Aviation led by Nnaji had advised that the new aircraft ground handling rate of $3900 be temporarily be put on hold till after the next meeting with the stakeholders.
