Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Board, has expressed satisfaction with the agency’s management team following a visit to the FAAN headquarters and a tour of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
During the visit, Ganduje held an inaugural session with the Managing Director and directors, receiving an overview of FAAN’s operations.
The chairman also inspected facilities, equipment, and the airport environment, noting existing challenges.
“My impression is that the agency is blessed with a competent managing director and directors,” Ganduje stated.
“I have seen signs of motivation, signs of seriousness, and signs of achievement.”
He acknowledged the challenges presented by the management and affirmed that discussions were underway to find solutions.
Ganduje emphasized the importance of benchmarking against international airport standards in developed countries, stating, “Whatever we saw there is a product of human beings, is a product of facilities, and is a product of motivation or visionary management of the organization. That is what we are expecting here.”
He commended the existing foundation and appealed for continued improvement.
The chairman highlighted some key challenges, including abandoned projects awarded years ago, predating the current management.
He noted that increased costs and the obsolescence of some equipment due to technological advancements have impacted these projects.
The FAAN Board Chair also cited financing as a contributing factor to the backlog of unfinished work.
He assured that the management is actively working on strategies to overcome these obstacles and complete the projects.
