The planned nationwide strike over electricity and fuel hike by the organized labour has received the full support of all the unions in the various sectors of the economy.

Specifically, the Aviation Unions have thrown its full weight behind the strike and have therefore directed that all workers in the industry withdraw their services.

The unions say, the nation’s airspace will be shut down from 00hrs on the 28 September, 2020.

This is contained in a joint statement and signed by the General Secretaries of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, Comrade Ocheme Aba, National Association of Aircraft Pilots And Engineers, NAAPE, Umoh Ofonime, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association Of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, Comrade Frances Akinjole and the Association Of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, ANAP, Comrade Abdulrazak Saidu say, “We are in full support of the strike action. As such all workers in the aviation sector are hereby directed to withdraw their services at all aerodromes nationwide as from 00hrs of 28th September 2020.”

They say the NLC and the TUC deserve unflinching support in this call for government to retrace its steps by reversing the increase recently announced on the pump price of fuel, the increase on the tariff for energy and the general insecurity that pervades the nation’s landscape.

The unions add that, workers must to stand up and be counted in the struggle “against oppression, exploitation, slavery and insensitive government policy, to the plight of the workers who created the wealth for the country while those elected to guarantee their wellbeing are now denying workers basic things of survival.”
