The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) and the National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) have pledged to strengthen their partnership to boost the nation’s tourism sector.
FTAN President, Mr. Nkereuwem Onung, led a delegation to meet with NIHOTOUR Director General, Aare Abisoye Fagade, at the institute’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
Aare Fagade expressed gratitude for the visit and emphasized NIHOTOUR’s commitment to working closely with FTAN, recognizing the association as a key partner in industry growth.
Mr. Onung praised the Director General’s leadership and reiterated FTAN’s dedication to collaborating with government agencies.
A key point of discussion was the revitalization of the dormant Sector Skills Council, which includes numerous FTAN members and industry experts.
Mr. Onung urged NIHOTOUR to prioritize its reactivation, highlighting its potential to contribute significantly to industry development.
FTAN also raised concerns regarding the implementation of the NIHOTOUR law, particularly recent registration announcements, citing a perceived lack of consultation with private sector stakeholders.
Mr. Onung informed the DG of FTAN’s formation of a committee to articulate private sector perspectives on the law and its implementation.
Aare Fagade clarified that the registration initiative aims to improve industry data collection, which is vital for strategic planning and development.
He acknowledged FTAN’s concerns and proposed a stakeholder meeting in February to address outstanding issues and present NIHOTOUR’s strategic plans.
Both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration, emphasizing the importance of effective regulation and mutual benefit for the advancement of Nigeria’s tourism industry.
