Kayode Odukoya CEO FirstNation Airways

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Wole Akonni who is representing the Managing Director of First Nation Airlines, Kayode Odukoya, charged with alleged theft of about two billion naira, has told a Special Offences Court in Ikeja, to quash the charges.

Chief Akonni, SAN, made the submission at the commencement of trial, pointing out that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, lacks the prosecutorial authority to try his clients.

The Senior Advocate told the court that EFCC had been served with the application of the preliminary objections.

EFCC counsel, Mrs. Zainab Ettuh, who confirmed that the agency had been served, however asked for a short adjourned date to enable the agency reply from point of law.

The trial judge, Justice Mojisola Dada adjourned the case until the twenty-first of this month to entertain the application.

Mr Odukoya had pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge of forgery, use of false document, perjury and stealing filed against him by the anti-graft commission.

First Nation and Bellview Airlines are joined in the suit as second and third defendants.
