Former Director General, Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Engr. Akin Olateru, has been awarded the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” by Air Transport Quarterly (ATQ) Magazine for 2024.
The award was presented at the 4th Air Transport Quarterly Magazine Industry Awards held in Lagos, recognizing Olateru’s outstanding contributions to aviation safety.
Supo Atobatele, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of ATQ, highlighted that the award celebrates Olateru’s exceptional leadership, vision, and dedication to enhancing safety standards within the aviation sector.
A key achievement under Olateru’s tenure was the successful transformation of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) into the multi-disciplinary Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
This expansion broadened the agency’s scope to include safety investigations across maritime, rail, and road transportation, in addition to aviation.
“Engr. Olateru’s leadership has positioned the NSIB as a global leader in safety investigation,” stated Atobatele.
“His commitment to implementing cutting-edge technology and international best practices has established a robust safety framework.”
Beyond his administrative role, Olateru has been a prominent advocate for safety awareness, education, and training, fostering a safety-first culture throughout the transportation industry.
