……arewa alleges foul play
The Headquaters of the Federal airports authority of Nigeria faan was gutted by fire this morning.
The fire which started at about 8.30 razed down the audit, engineering, commercial anf corporate communications departments and the reception hall.
The inferno was put out by the combined team of the Lagos state and FAAN fire fighters.
Eye witnesses and FAAN staff say the fire may have been due to power surge, as power was interrupted briefly and restored.
As at the time of filing in this report, fire fighters were using water hydrant to pull out fire in some areas noticed that could easily trigger off another fire.
As at the time fire broke out, an audit of staff verification was on going, some of the staff certificates have been alleged to be burnt in the fire.
Some people were said to have sustained minor injuries and were attended to by medical personnel as about two ambulances were deployed to the scene.
The incident led to traffic gridlock on the road into the airport.
In a statement, spokesman for FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu said, “the fire which affected some offices, is being investigated right now to find out the cause of the outbreak.
The fire department, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire Department and other security agencies however responded swiftly by curtailing the spread of the fire, as normalcy is being restored already.
The Authority will like to assure travelers, airport users and the general public that the incident did not affect operations at any airport in any way as normal operations continue unhindered”.
Reacting to the fire incident, president, Arewa Unitef consultative Forum, Alhaji Ado Shuaibu Dansudu called for a thorough investigation into the incident alleging a foul play.
He wondered why every fire outbreak at the airport happens in a government agency
” everytime government agency is burnt, the cause of the fire ia never known, why, i suspect a foul play, we will not allow this to go like this, the person that cause this fire must be brought to book, there is something they want to hide” he added
