The Federal Parastatal and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEPPPA) Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) branch has threatened to embark on a nationwide protest from February 15, 2025, if the management of FAAN fails to dialogue with them over outstanding issues.

The pensioners, who gathered at the Ikeja local airport for their first general meeting, expressed frustration over the inability of the new FAAN management to meet with them to discuss challenges facing the pensioners.

According to the General Secretary of FEPPPA FAAN branch, Comrade Emeka Njoku, the pensioners have been unable to access medical facilities granted in the past, and the issue of minimum wage has not been addressed.

“We have written to FAAN Management to call for meetings to discuss all these outstanding issues, but they have not responded. We are watching, and this year, we will not tolerate such neglect from FAAN Management”.

The pensioners are demanding that the management of FAAN apply the minimum wage of N32,000 to pensioners, as agreed upon in 2002.

However, the present management has failed to comply with this agreement, despite a request being sent to Income, Salaries and Wages Commission seeking approval in terms of percentage.

Comrade Njoku also expressed disappointment that the management has failed to provide information on what platform is used for pensioners in the organization, adding that they ought to know their entitlement.

The Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, however, claimed that she received the pensioners’ letter in October and scheduled a meeting with them for December 19, 2024, following another correspondence.

She expressed her willingness to meet with the pensioners, stating that she meets with people without discrimination on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The pensioners have given FAAN management until February 15, 2025, to respond to their demands and schedule a meeting and failure to do so will result in a nationwide protest, which will mobilize pensioners across the country.
