Though the match started late, it did not dampen the enthusiasm exhibited by the players of the Directorate of Human Resources, DHR who were battle ready to wallop the players of Dunoma FC.
Same spirit was also exhibited by Dunoma players, unfortunately the god of football as football lovers would say was not on their side.
Immediately after kick off by the representative of the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and Director, commercial and business development, Mr. Sadiku Rafindadi , the first two goals came in quick succession in the first half by players of the DHR but however was reduced to to one at the second half of the match by their opponent, Dunoma FC.
The match was full of so much entertainment by some of supporters of Dunoma FC who came along with a goat, a bottle of spirit popularly called ‘kinkin or sepe’, one of them had his entire body painted with white chalk and a white cloth tied around his body dancing in support of his team.
The entire FAAN secondary school field were the match too place was electrified as football lovers in the different agencies and in the environ trouped out to watch the final match of the inter- directorate cup.
The joy of both the players and spectators was further heightened with the presence of former Eagle player, Mutiu Adepoju who was a special guest of honor.
The ex-super Eagles player popularly called ‘The Headmaster’ commended FAAN for putting the game together for unity, adding that football is a game of entertainment.
In a chat with newsmen before the commencement of the match Representative of the Managing Director, Saleh Dunoma; Director of Commercial and Business Development(DCBD), Alhaji Sadiku Rafindadi said the Unity up apart from helping the staff to keep fit, it is also to strengthen the bond of union among the FAAN as a family as well as help to encourage FAAN workers in their sporting endeavours and put in place a team the airport authority can call its own.
He said,”it’s a family game, it’s a unity game and its a game that everyone will enjoy.”
Highlights of the game was the presentation of awards to all the participants and players.
Medals were presented to third place directorate that is Directorate of Operations, second place was Dunoma FC and to the winners of the Third FAAN Unity cup was presented to Directorate Human Resources by the representative of the managing director and the Guest of honour, ex-Nigerian international, Mutiu Adepoju as well as General Manager corporate Communication, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu.
Other awards included the Most Valuable Player and Best goalkeeper. Medals were also given the three referees that officiated the match and the commentator.
