The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken proactive steps to enhance safety during the upcoming Yuletide season by launching a revalidation program for aircraft marshallers.
This initiative aims to reduce apron-related incidents and accidents as directed by FAAN Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku
In collaboration with F.C.I International, Centre of Technical Development, over 200 aircraft marshallers from various airports across the nation have undergone rigorous training and revalidation.
The program focuses on refining marshalling skills and ensuring compliance with Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) advisory circular NCAA-AC-ARD049 on Airside Safety Management.
Dr. Emiola Olatubosun Luqman, Director of Human Resources at FAAN, emphasized the importance of this program in addressing technical training gaps and ensuring safe and secure air transport services during the festive season and beyond.
Fortune Idu, Managing Director of FCI International, highlighted the unique nature of this revalidation program, which extends beyond basic marshalling signals.
According to him, the training incorporates assessments of apron-related work hazards, reviews standard operating procedures, and introduces a new logging system to improve efficiency.
Aircraft marshallers who participated in the training expressed gratitude to FAAN management for addressing their needs and providing the necessary tools to perform their duties effectively.
They also called for expanded career progression opportunities and increased training initiatives.
In response to these requests, Mr. Idu advocated the formation of a Marshallers consultative body to ensure professional conduct and respect for the profession.
He noted that this proposal has been endorsed by the Acting Director General of the NCAA.
