The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN has put arrangement in place to procure NEEDS scanning machines that can do specific jobs such as detection of hard drugs, ammunitions and food.

SERVICOM General Manager, FAAN, Mrs. Ebele Okoye at the 2nd quarter meeting with stakeholders in Lagos said the desire of the Management is to ensure that service users get value for the services they pay for.

According to her, the new machines will eliminate face-to-face with passengers and the security officials stationed at the entrance of the hall to screen luggage of passengers, adding that this will also put to a stop officials asking passengers for money.

Explaining what the scanners can do, the SERVICOM GM noted that, it has the capacity to identify any object and go beyond specifying the type of object among others.

” FAAN has imported, it has not yet arrived from the information I got, they have imported NEEDS scanners, new scanners that will be able to say, what is here is food, what is there is water but not a chemical that can explode, it can say search this person he has a metal”.
” the current scanners detect something like a metal, its not going to show you the specific metal but the NEEDS scanner will show you, this is just a metal like a ring, this is just a metal like an umbrella head but if it is a metal like a gun, it will show you that this is gun”, she added.

In his address of welcome, the Managing Director, FAAN, Saleh Dunoma said the agency is committed to ensuring that both passenger and service users get a great experience in the use of its facilities.
