The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has brokered a deal to resolve a dispute over a Boeing 737-NG full flight fire simulator acquired by the federal government in 2019 and installed at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT).

Following a meeting in Lagos with the NCAT, Rector Mr. Joseph Imalighwe, and the leadership of the Nigerian Aviation Fire and Safety Association (NAFSA), it was agreed that FAAN and NCAT would share revenue and liabilities for the simulator.

Acquired in 2019 for approximately N5.2 billion by the previous administration, the simulator is expected to save the country billions of foreign currency in training costs, which were previously spent on training abroad.

In a statement, the FAAN MD said, “We are thrilled to have finally reached this agreement between sister organizations in the interest of passenger safety and improving the competence of our brave firefighters. This will enhance our global image and attract revenue that both organizations need. As I have always emphasized, safety will always be our top priority at FAAN, and this is a testament to that.”

FAAN is expected to leverage its network to attract foreign trainees to use the facility, generating revenue for both organizations.

The Multi-Purpose Aircraft Fire Simulator, located at NCAT’s campus in Zaria, offers various practical fire fighting and rescue scenarios.
