The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has taken a significant step towards ensuring the health and well-being of FAAN Firefighters across all airports in the country.
The authority has introduced the Annual Firefighters Medical Certification Tests, a comprehensive medical fitness test designed to assess the health status of FAAN Firefighters.
The exercise, which is the first of its kind in FAAN, aims to mitigate mortality in active service and ensure that firefighters are fit for duty.
The test is mandatory for all FAAN Firefighters and will be conducted annually.
The National President, Nigerian Aviation Fire and Safety Association (NAFSA), Comrade Ugbeikwu Sunday, commended Mrs. Kuku for her commitment to the health and well-being of FAAN Firefighters.
“We appreciate the FAAN Management for the success of the Exercise. However, we wish to request that the Exercise should be extended to the other Domestic Airports across the country as the health and well-being of all the Firefighters are equally paramount”.
Comrade Ugbeikwu also acknowledged Mrs. Kuku’s efforts in implementing the test, which was previously proposed by NAFSA but not implemented during the tenure of the former MD/CE FAAN, Capt. Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu.
“We are grateful to Mrs. Kuku for implementing the Annual Firefighters Medical Certification Tests, which has come to stay”.
According to him, the introduction of the Annual Firefighters Medical Certification Tests is a significant step towards ensuring the health and well-being of FAAN Firefighters, who are exposed to hazardous conditions while performing their duties.
The exercise is expected to reduce the risk of mortality and ensure that firefighters are fit for duty.
