Ethiopian Airlines, the largest airline group in Africa and the largest MRO operator, has proudly launched its CFM Leap-1B engine test cell at its Addis Ababa MRO Services facility.

This new facility gives Ethiopian Airlines the capability to fully test the Leap-1B engine, which is exclusively used by Boeing’s new-generation 737 MAX single-aisle jet.

“We are proud to have achieved full testing capability for the CFM Leap-1B engine at our modern MRO facility in Addis Ababa,” said Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer.

“This state-of-the-art facility will enable us to finalize the development of Performance Restoration Shop Visit (PRSV1) repair capability on the engine, which is expected to be ready soon. We would like to extend our appreciation to our partners, SAE, GE, and others who contributed to this success.”

The newly launched Leap-1B testing facility positions Ethiopian Airlines as the fifth facility globally outside of the Safran Aero Engines (SAE) and General Electric (GE) network, and the first in the Middle East and Africa to possess such advanced capability.

Ethiopian Airlines plans to complete Phase 2 of the Performance Restoration Shop Visit (PRSV1) project by the end of September 2024, which will enable the airline to offer Leap-1B PRSV solutions to customers in the region and beyond.

Ethiopian Airlines owns the largest MRO Service facility in Africa, which was established in 1957.

The facility provides Line Maintenance services at stations where Ethiopian flies and extends its services to African and Middle East operators.

The facility is fully equipped with hangars, engine and component maintenance workshops, and all the necessary equipment to repair and overhaul aircraft, engines, and components.

Ethiopian MRO offers world-class services to its customers, helping to make Ethiopian Airlines one of the most dependable and safest airlines in the world.

The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and other regulatory bodies have certified Ethiopian MRO facility.
