The Federal Government has announced the reopening of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu for flight operations on Monday, April 28th, 2025, ahead of schedule.

This comes after the completion of emergency repairs to the airport’s runway, which was shut down on April 18th, 2025, due to a sudden rupture in the asphalt surface.

The repairs, initially slated to conclude by May 6th, 2025, were expedited, with engineers working with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) completing the rehabilitation works ahead of time.

The Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, Obiageli Orah in a news statement, says, the, runway has been cleared for landings and takeoffs.

FAAN has expressed gratitude to airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the closure, apologizing for any inconvenience caused while assuring the public that the actions were taken in the interest of safety.
