In a show of solidarity with the victims of the recent Alau Dam disaster, a high-level delegation from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN) visited Borno State to commiserate with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and the affected communities.
Led by the presidents of the three engineering bodies, the delegation delivered a significant amount of relief materials, including clothing, food, and a substantial cash donation to aid in recovery efforts.
The disaster, which resulted in widespread flooding and damage to infrastructure, has displaced thousands of residents in Maiduguri and surrounding areas.
“We are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the Alau Dam disaster,” said Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, President of the NSE.
“As engineers, we understand the importance of infrastructure and the impact it can have on people’s lives. We are committed to supporting the government and communities in Borno State during this challenging time.”
Governor Zulum expressed his gratitude for the delegation’s visit and the much-needed assistance.
“The support from the engineering community is invaluable, it demonstrates their commitment to the welfare of Nigerians, especially in times of crisis.”
In addition to meeting with the Governor, the delegation also visited the Shehu of Borno, a traditional ruler who expressed his appreciation for the engineering bodies’ efforts.
