The Nigerian aviation sector is gearing up for the 2024 World Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) event, which will take place in Lagos next week.
The event, organized by the Aeronautical Information Management Association of Nigeria (AIMAN), taking place Wednesday 15th of May at the Lagos Travel Inn, Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos, will focus on the theme “Efficient Data Management in an Automated Environment”.
Industry experts will come together to discuss the critical role of automation in collecting, editing, formatting, and disseminating aeronautical information, which enhances the overall efficiency and safety of air navigation in the country.
In a statement by the AIMAN President, Mr. William Ngerem, the event is particularly significant this year, as the Federal Government is investing heavily in the deployment of facilities for the imminent takeoff of AIS Automation in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the event will attract top industry leaders, including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barr. Festus Keyamo, and other notable figures such as the Acting Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Umar Farouk who is the chief host.
The event will be chaired by Engr. Godwin Balang, Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards at NCAA.
Keynote and celebration addresses will be delivered by Mr. Ahmad Abba, Director of Special Duties at NAMA, and Mr. John Tayo, Director of Air Traffic Services at NAMA.
The World AIS Day celebration is an annual event observed by all contracting states in accordance with the declaration by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to promote better professional practices and raise public awareness of the importance of aeronautical information services as a safety-critical profession in the aviation industry.
