
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA has issued a letter threatening to suspend the operations of Turkish airlines into Nigeria over failure to bring in checked in luggage with their owners.
In a letter dated 11th December, 2019 addressed to the Country General Manager, Turkish airline and signed by the Acting Director General, NCAA, Captain Abdullahi Sidi, the airline has many times arrive the country without passengers luggage which has led to mob attacks by the aggrieved passengers at the Airport which is a serious threat to Airport facilities.
In the letter copied the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and that of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, the NCAA says for over two weeks the authority has been recording passengers complain of their baggage not accompanying them on the flight.
The incident that prompted the regulatory authority to issue the letter of suspension was the recent Incident when more than 85% of passengers checked-in luggage did not arrive with their owners.
According to the letter, the airport authority has been facing serious crises controlling the passengers whenever the airline arrive without their luggage.
The NCAA noted that despite series of meetings held with officials of the airlines and agreement reached in addressing the problems, the airline has failed to do the needful.
“The NCAA is left with no option than to direct Turkish airline to suspend its operations into Nigeria until such a time when the airline is ready to operate the right size I aircraft that can transport all passengers with their baggage at the same time”.
The letter emphasized that until the airline is ready to operate with the right size of aircraft that will carry both passengers and their luggage, the authority has no option but to suspend Turkish airlines operations into Nigeria effective 16th December, 2019.
“If no remedial action is carried out by your airline this supension shall be effective from 16th December, 2019”.
