Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dees Travels, Professor Sunday Adebisi, has asserted that Nigeria possesses the potential to transform into a tourism powerhouse, mirroring the success of Dubai, provided the government implements effective policies.

Speaking at the company’s annual event, Adebisi highlighted the significant economic impact of the recent “Detty December” holiday season, which he estimated generated over $100 million for the country.

“This event has shown that, with proper organization, Nigeria could surpass even Dubai as the premier destination in Africa. With 365 days of summer, there’s no reason why tourists can’t flock to Nigeria year-round.”

He emphasized that this influx of foreign visitors underscores Nigeria’s strong tourism appeal and the immense potential of the sector if properly harnessed.

“If we get our tourism sector right, the potential is limitless”.

Prof. Adebisi urged the government to prioritize tourism development, believing it could unlock significant economic growth and create numerous job opportunities.

Echoing these sentiments, Daisi Olotu, Group Managing Director of Dees Travels, stressed the critical role of aviation in supporting the tourism industry.

He argued that investing in aviation infrastructure and services would not only benefit tourism operators but also stimulate broader economic growth.

Both executives emphasized the need for government support and the implementation of policies that foster the growth of the tourism and aviation sectors.

“Tourism has the potential to generate vast amounts of income, and if Nigeria wants to compete globally, it must make these sectors a priority. People are already travelling many Nigerian families have relatives abroad and travel will continue to bring money into the country.”

They expressed their willingness to collaborate with the government to achieve these goals.
