Debts: FAAN to implement sanctions against state and private airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigerai, FAAN has threatened to implement sanctions against state and private owned airports indebted to it.

To this end, the FAAN management has issued 7 day notice of grace after the earlier altimatum which will expired 23/04/19 for the affected airports to settle all outstanding debts failure which will lead to the withdrawal its aviation security and Aerodrome Rescue and fire fighting personnel effects from 1st May, 2019.

According to the notice, “The Authority shall be constrained to commence implementation of sanctions at the expiration of this notice if the organizations fail or refuse to pay up, as advised”.

“In view of the above, the Authority hereby notifies private airport operators that the services of our Aviation security and Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Personnel will no longer be available for the operations of their airports with effect from Wednesday 1st May, 2019 as the Authority can no longer keep these personnel at the airports working without payment”.

The debtors are the Gombe and Kebbi airports to the tune of N800million.

Other debtors are Bicourtney aviation services, Jigawa, Bauchi, Akwa Ibom, Asaba and Bebi airports.
