….ICAO Day with Walk, Lecture in Lagos
The Aviation Mode of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) joined the global aviation community to commemorate International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Day, celebrated annually on December 7.
The Lagos event featured an awareness walk and a lecture centered on the 2024 theme: “Working Together to Ensure No Country is Left Behind.”
The awareness walk began at the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and ended at Murtala Muhammed International Airport. It saw a significant turnout of members, aviation enthusiasts, and stakeholders in the industry.
In her opening remarks during the lecture, CILT Aviation Mode Representative, Mrs. Queen Ajayi, emphasized the theme’s importance, describing it as a call to action and a testament to the transformative power of collaboration in aviation.
“‘Working Together’ is not just a phrase—it is the foundation of global aviation,” she said. “Whether it’s regulators, operators, policymakers, or international organizations, our collective efforts can address disparities, build capacity, and ensure even the most remote regions benefit from aviation’s promise of connectivity and economic development.”

Mrs. Ajayi urged stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to fostering partnerships and innovation while ensuring inclusivity in global aviation.
“Let us be resolute in creating opportunities for all, ensuring that no country, no community, and no individual is left behind. Together, we can build a more inclusive and interconnected world where aviation catalyzes shared progress and prosperity,” she concluded.
The Acting Director General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, delivered a keynote address, highlighting the theme’s relevance to global aviation’s core mission of connecting people, cultures, and economies.
He noted the industry’s role as a driver of global connectivity, economic growth, and cultural exchange.
“Civil aviation is more than just a mode of transportation; it is a lifeline for global connectivity,” Captain Najomo stated.
“The challenges we face are monumental but not insurmountable. Through collaboration, we can pave the way for sustainable and equitable growth in aviation.”
He called for strengthened partnerships among governments, private sector players, international organizations, and academics to achieve a brighter, interconnected future.
ICAO Day: A Global Celebration
December 7 was officially designated ICAO Day by the United Nations General Assembly in 1996.
It serves as a day to reflect on the aviation industry’s achievements and evaluate its global impact on connectivity, economic development, and cultural exchange.
The Lagos event was a fitting celebration, reinforcing the aviation sector’s commitment to ensuring no nation is left behind in the journey toward a more connected world.
