…Hope in sight for promotion
The Acting Director General Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Njomo has called for a remarkable Improvement in staff productivity to effectively reposition the NCAA and the Nigeria aviation industry in its rightful place as a leader on the African continent.
To achieve this, he said in this new year, training and retraining will be of utmost priority to enable staff to discharge their responsibilities with the required competency.
Capt Njomo who made the call at the new year joint prayers assembly at the NCAA Headquarters in Lagos warned that, any staff who fails to attend training paid for disciplinary action would be taken against such a staff to serve as a deterrent.
“As we all know, one of the integral commitments and cardinal policy thrust of NCAA is training and retraining of staff”.
“I make bold to say that we have a huge task ahead of us. Being the industry regulator comes with huge responsibility. I therefore, implore all staff to put their best foot forward”, he added.
The Ag. DGCA represented by Capt. Donald Spiff, Director, Operations, Licensing and Training Standards also charged on punctuality saying that, all staff are expected to be at work at 8am-4pm except for staff who run shift duty.
He noted that, while taking cognizance of the high cost of fuel and transportation, the management team would map out modalities to ameliorate this situation.
On the murmuring of issues of staff promotion and concerns on paucity of vacancies and openings on grade levels 15-17, the Ag. DGCA agreed this had led to stagnation in the system but assured efforts are on to create openings as realistically as possible.
“There are complaints of alleged lack of fairness/equity in handling promotion and disciplinary matters. I wish to assure you that these matters will be handled decisively, effective from this year. My pledge staff will be my firmness, fairness and equity in handling staff matters”.
The Ag. DGCA pledged to collaborate with the various unions in the NCAA to ensure industrial harmony while also assuring the provision of working tools as the budget permits.
“My door remains open to the unions as it is my firm belief that the best way to solve issues is through collaboration and cooperation”.
Other areas he promised to give attention are the regional offices and their needs, adding that, the complaints and feelings of disenfranchisement because of being in the outstation would be addressed and eliminated this year.
”Every NCAA office and staff is an integral part of the success of the Authority and must be made to feel so. There will be no station or staff left behind under my watch. We need your support and commitment to push towards achieving our goal”.
