Director General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE) for his dedication to upholding safety standards within the aviation industry.
The prestigious award, presented at the NCAA Corporate Headquarters on Wednesday, recognizes Capt. Najomo’s 44-year career as an aviator, marked by an “impeccable safety record,” according to NISafetyE.
Apart from Capt. Najomo, two other NCAA staff members, Engr. Ini Udofia, Technical Assistant, and Engr. Dr. Iteke C. Ifeanyi, General Manager, Air Operator Certification and Surveillance, were also conferred with Fellowships.
Engr. Oluseun Faluyi, FNSE, FNISafetyE, National Chairman of NISafetyE, presented the honors, emphasizing the institution’s recognition of the critical role engineers play in ensuring public safety within regulatory bodies like the NCAA.
“We believe that you should be part of this professional circle of trust, where knowledge-sharing and technical expertise drive continuous improvement in safety standards,” Engr. Faluyi stated, highlighting the potential for increased collaboration between the NCAA and NISafetyE.
In his acceptance speech, Capt. Najomo stressed the paramount importance of safety in the aviation sector, acknowledging the vital contributions of safety engineers and other professionals.
He emphasized the potential for synergy between the NCAA and NISafetyE, particularly in areas like research and development and capacity building.
“By fostering a strong partnership, for example, in Research & Development, we can address emerging safety challenges and ensure that Nigeria continues to meet and exceed global aviation safety standards”.
He attributed the NCAA’s achievements to a “collective will and dedication” from management and staff, as well as the support of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, dedicating the honor to all safety professionals within the NCAA.
