The Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) and the Southern African Development Community Aviation Safety Organisation (SASO) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) at the AFI Aviation Week in Libreville, Gabon.
This is in a significant move to enhance safety and security in the region.
The MOC, signed by Engr. Charles Irikefe Erhueh, Commissioner of BAGAIA, and Mr. Kabo Phutietsile, Executive Director of SASO, on July 19, 2024, aims to strengthen the performance of both organisations in line with the provisions of the Convention on International Civil Aviation and its protocols.
The collaboration will facilitate the exchange of information and expertise between the parties, enabling the sharing of best practices and experiences in aviation safety.
This will also involve the formalisation, consolidation, promotion, and sharing of experiences with other Regional Safety Oversight Organisations (RSOOs) and Regional Accident Investigation Organisations (RAIOs).
Under the MOC, BAGAIA and SASO will work together to implement the critical elements of a state safety oversight system, including joint participation in activities aimed at enhancing safety standards.
The two organisations will also harmonise their regulations, manuals, procedures, and programmes to assist Member States in complying with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) requirements.
