The President, Airports Fire and Safety Cooperative Multipurpose Society Ltd (AFSCMS) Saheed Sadiq has won the Lagos State most outstanding cooperatives leadership award (men’s category).
This was announced at the Grand Finale of the just concluded Annual International Cooperative Day celebration jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Cooperatives and Lagos State Cooperatives Federation (LASCOFED).
Speaking to journalists at the event, the President of the society, Alhaji Saheed Anako Sadiq said the award was in recognition of the efforts and hard work of the leadership of AFSCMS and a call to double their efforts and add morevalue to humanity.
According to him, the cooperative leadership was about the people and their welfarism stressing that all achievements that culminated into being recognized for this award wouldn’t have been possible without the cooperators describing them as the pillars of the society.
Sadiq who said the importance of the award was overwhelming declared “what we are doing in the leadership role as servant leaders is service to humanity by putting the people first. The only thing I can see there is adding value, that is to continue service to humanity, all the achievements we showcased that earned us this award is essentially in the interest of adding value”.
He vowed to continue to improve on the welfare of members of the cooperative which he said without them there will not be a cooperative.
The narrative he noted has changed in terms of cooperative leadership as members are always the focus in any of the cooperative policies.
Sadiq noted that cooperative was all about poverty alleviation, adding that achievements in housing, real estate housing for members and empowerment programs remain paramount.
He said the investments of the cooperative will continue to grow as they plough back return of the investments to the society.
“So giving back to the society, we are also looking at the corporate social responsibility in the corner, not just the members, we have other audience, the community, the environment where we are operating, how well are you impacting the community around you, the narrative and cooperative leadership has changed completely but then we give Glory to almighty God for the award”.
The award was jointly presented by the Cooperative College Provost, Mr. Akorede Ojumu and the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Adetutu Ososanya.
It is dedicated to the members both living and in posthumous as they are the real winners.
Also the society’s management committee whose unalloyed contributions and support translated to most of the achievements.
Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, was represented by Barrister Bimbo Salu-Hudeyin, the secretary to the state government.
