Aspiring Pilots Urged to Explore Funding Options, Invest in Training at Explore Aviation Careers Conference

The future of Nigerian aviation soared during the 8th Explore Aviation Careers Conference and Second Pilots Seminar, held at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Annex in Lagos. 

The event brought together industry leaders, aspiring aviators, and government officials to discuss career opportunities and the path to success in this dynamic field.

Acting Director General, Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo of the NCAA, addressed the eager students, emphasizing the importance of focus and dedication in achieving their aviation dreams. 

He highlighted the global pilot shortage, presenting a unique opportunity for qualified Nigerians. 

Capt. Najomo advised students to explore funding options with their state governments, pledging the NCAA’s assistance in that process.

Capt. Kayode Adaje of Arik Air urged Nigerian airlines to increase their investment in training young pilots and other aviation professionals. 

He pointed to Rotimi Adeoye, a Nigerian Captain on the A350 at Ethiopian Airlines and once the youngest in Africa, as a shining example of what can be achieved.

President of the Aircraft Owners Association of Nigeria (AOAN), Dr. Alex Nwuba emphasized the unique appeal of flying. 

Pilots, he stated, experience the world from a breathtaking perspective unavailable to those on the ground. 

Dr. Nwuba urged aviation authorities to prioritize the development of General Aviation, a vital sector for fostering commercial airline growth and nurturing future talent.

Flight Dispatcher and Instructor Mrs. Victoria Adegbe, CEO of Aviatrix Hub, shared her inspiring journey within aviation. 

She stressed that, her dedication to expanding her skillset serves as a powerful example for aspiring professionals.

Event organizer Mrs. Joy Ogbebo, CEO MamaJ Aviation highlighted the importance of informed career decisions. 

The conference served as a platform for top industry stakeholders, to share their experiences and inspire the next generation of Nigerian aviation professionals.

These include Mr. George Uriesi (COO and Executive Director of Ibom Air), Capt. Anthony Ayeni (Ibom Air), Mr. Olakunmi Odumosu (Head of IT at Bellagio Air) and Mrs. Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi (Head of Corporate Communications at Bi-courtney Aviation Services Limited).

Others are, Mr.Olugbenga Onitilo (Wakanow.com), and Capt. Donald Tonye Spiff (Director of Operations, Licensing & Training at NCAA).
