A video circulating on social media captured a tense scene at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on January 16, 2024. Initially, many assumed it depicted a passenger mistreating a FAAN staff member.

However, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) clarified that the situation involved a different agency.

In a statement, FAAN spokesperson Mrs. Obiageli Orah explained that the individual in the video was not a FAAN employee but a member of the Pathfinder company.

According to reports, the Pathfinder employee, seeking assistance with transporting a parcel, raised suspicion in a passenger concerning potential drug trafficking.

Swift action followed. The Aviation Security Services’ Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit promptly detained the Pathfinder employee for questioning.

Meanwhile, the passenger involved had already departed the airport, leaving the medication under suspicion – labeled “NEW AGE GLUCOSAMINE CHONDROITIN SULFATE COMPLEX” – in FAAN’s possession.

FAAN emphasized its commitment to a drug-free society and stated that the aforementioned medication has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.

The investigation will shed light on the situation and ensure any potential wrongdoing is addressed.
