The US Consul General, Mr. John Bray who was the chairman of the brief ceremony said, the deal would not only boost AirPeace fleet, it would create many jobs in the Nigerian aviation industry.
He noted that this would also help to strengthen the bond between the United States of America and Nigeria, adding that, it would be a win-win for both countries.
“it is a win-win situation, something like this is going to create more than 3,000 jobs in Nigeria and also in the US”.
Boeing Sales Director for West and Central Africa, Mr. Larry Tolliver said Boeing was happy to do business with AirPeace with the purchase of the 10 Boeing 737 MAX to add to its fleet of Boeing aircraft.
“The 737 MAX is all about efficiency, reliability and passenger appeal, when it comes to fuel, the massive benefit you get in fuel is at least 40% over the current fleet AirPeace is operating at least probably more, reliability, less more down time for maintenance, much longer time to safe,y fly the aircraft before you can do routine maintenance those all translate right into the airline’s bottom line that is the one of the main reasons why the Boeing 737 MAX is the fastest selling Boeing aircraft Boeing has ever made”.
On Passenger appeal, he said,” right interior, latest interior, the latest entertainment that is how Nigerians will also be able to enjoy the same level service that you find on any airline anywhere while they fly, whether into Abuja or to other countries in Africa”.
Responding, Chairman/CEO AirPeace, Barr. Allen Onyema said he was buying the aircraft not at the market value of $113m each but lesser than that because Boeing had confidence in their ability to operate it efficiently and believes that they have integrity to sustain it’s operations.
” When you are buying planes from manufacturer, I will tell you, the least price of each of this aircraft, go to the Internet, it’s about $113m but AirPeace is not paying that, we are not paying anything near it, we thank Boeing for recognising that AirPeace is one of the airlines out of West Africa and Nigeria that is going places”.
He explained that the incentives from Boeing with the purchase of the aircraft comes was worth billions of dollars.
” these incentives is worth several millions of dollars in form of training, spare parts and others to help us advance our entry into service”.
Onyema said,”AirPeace has decided to achieve another feat of being in the first airline in West Africa to use the latest Boeing invention that is the 737MAX, we are the first going for 737 MAX. We have a firm order for 10 Boeing 737 MAX by so doing, I think AirPeace has joined the big league”.
“We are committed to doing this, we have made some payments because we are interested in creating job opportunities for our people and we all know one Boeing 737 MAX would give job to over 500 people, so you can as well as counting how many brand new 737 MAX would give in many years”.
” It is our support to the system, let’s us not think of what the government can do for you, let us see what we can do ourselves and our nation. On our side we are contributing to the issues of trying to curb the insecurity in the land through employment opportunities fir the people, we are looking at the teeming masses of unemployed youths in Nigeria”.
On why the choice of Boeing 737 MAx, Onyema said apart from being the latest invention of Boeing, the aircraft was fuel efficient and had long time before routine maintenance.
According to him, the delivery date of the aircraft would be soon, ” the planes would come soon I don’t want to disclose that for obvious reasons”.
He thanked his financier Fidelity bank for being supportive.
